Aidan's Seizures Increasing

We had hoped that the change in medication would cut back the number of seizures Aidan suffered until mid-February. And at first it looked like he was nearly seizure free. Unfortunately for the past two weeks Aidan has rarely been able to complete a day of school due to almost constant seizures attacks.

He often cannot walk from his classroom to the office without seizures stopping him in his tracks multiple times. They are a new kind of seizure. He does not drop to the floor, but stops mid step and his left arm shakes for 2 to 10 minutes. Then it stops and he is able to walk a few more steps before the next one strikes. Someone has to carry a chair so Aidan can be lowered into it when a seizure strikes when he is walking while someone else holds him from falling down.

Although he continues to attend classes he will have seizures every couple of minutes that last for several minutes at a time. He slumps over his desk and his arm slides back and forth. An assistant makes sure he doesn't hurt himself and rubs his back until the attack passes. Then he carries on listening or working on his assignment.

Eventually he is too sad and frustrated with the constant seizing, and his dad, who is the school principal calls Jo and she picks him up and takes him home.

He continues to miss physical therapy appointments. He went home by 1:00 pm a few days ago due to seizures he had been having since the morning. On another day, his dad was given tickets to an Oilers hockey game and checked with Aidan at 3:15 pm before sending him home from school asking if he would like to go. He was excited. But by the time his dad got home from work to pick him up at 5:30, he was in the middle of another cluster and was in no shape to go. They gave the tickets to the neighbours.

A few times a week he still has the falling down, shaking and moaning type of seizures that he used to have a lot. Obviously the change in medications has done something but overall there certainly has been no improvement.

He has had some extra blood tests this past week and has an appointment with his specialist this Tuesday February 26.

Please pray that God will the doctors what they need to do to stop these new types of seizures. God is the Healer and He can do anything. Pray that He will do something good for Aidan soon.

There is a limit to what even a courageous school boy can endure. May God keep Aidan from sliding into total discouragement.

A depressed 13 year-old boy is a terrible thing to see.
